Open House Parent/Student Presentation

Welcome! I am so very excited that you will be joining me this year for a wonderful adventure! Fourth grade is filled with many new and exciting learning opportunities and we are going to have so much fun in math and science.

This year we will work on skills such as place value from the millions to the hundredths, multiplication and division of large numbers, and LOTS of FRACTIONS! It is very important as we move on to higher math with bigger numbers that you are fluent with your math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). We will spend time daily mastering multiplication and division fact families. Please practice, practice, practice at home.

There are so many fun topics in Science that we will study as 4th graders! We will start with Light and Sound and then move to Weather, Forces and Motion, Space and our Solar System, and finally Life Science.

About me

I graduated from Augusta State in 2004 and started my first year of teaching that July in Covington, GA. I taught 1st grade and commuted back and forth to Augusta. That year I had my oldest son, Clark.

In 2005 I took a position a little closer to home with Burke County Schools as a 5th grade ELA teacher. I LOVED teaching 5th grade, but wanted to each Math, so I was changed to 4th grade. I taught 4th grade for a couple of years while I was working on my master's degree in Instructional Technology.

In 2009 I took a job with a private technology company and traveled the country teaching educators! I worked with thousands of people at over 200 schools and helped them integrate technology into their classrooms and their lesson plans. I loved this position, but with a young child I decided to move back into a school setting and took a job with North Carolina Public Schools as an Instructional Technology Facilitator.

In 2015, my middle son Ward was born. It was then that we decided that I would stay home and be with him. By 2018 we had our third child, our baby girl, Reid.

In 2020 the Pandemic hit. I had a strong desire to return to work and get back to teaching!! It is my passion and my lifelong dream and I have always enjoyed learning new things and being a student myself.
